Maren from Norway
About my stay in Vancouver:
As I explained in the resume that I sent to INTERNeX in November 2009, I have for a long time been interested in going to Canada. And I can say confidently that after my stay in Vancouver, I most definitely want to go back! It was an incredible experience being there during the 2010 Winter Games. I found the INTERNeX homepage on the web last fall, and I decided to give it a try - with a great outcome! :) I arrived in Vancouver on the 28th of January, and got a internship position at a language school as an "Activities Coordinator". This included working behind the activity desk, planning an "Olympics schedule" for the students, and bringing them to different events in the city. The people at the language school were really friendly, and I quickly felt comfortable in this new environment. We had busy days, but that`s how I like it. I usually started my day at 8am, and finished at 5pm, depending a little bit on the program for the day. Two of my coworkers who were two very nice guys from Holland. Every Monday, the language school would have a new intake of students, so I helped out with the registrations etc. I also took the new students on a short city tour.
I lived in the Staff House of INTERNeX which was such a great experience! I met some very nice people, and we got along perfectly :) We would all go to the cinema, to bars and restaurants together.
During my 4 weeks in Vancouver, I also got the chance to go to Whistler. On this trip I joined some students and staff members and went there for the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics. I wish that I could have stayed in Canada for a longer period of time, but since this was an unpaid internship, I had to go back to Norway and some earn money. I want to see more of BC, but I`m also interested in going to Quebec and Montreal. Maybe next summer? :)
