Anika from Germany
After almost three months of practical training at a senior care center, my time in Vancouver slowly goes to end. I just had a great time at work and in general! The Senior Care centre I worked at was nicely situated at Capilano River, the facility offers lots of programs for its permanent residents such as art classes, baking, exercises, sing-a-long, bowling, gardening, outdoor walks and so on. The Recreation team consists of eight full and part-time working women, who are all easy going and friendly.
As a student in recreation, I first assisted the staff in running their programs, before I started doing my own ones from the second month on. I ran programs like gymnastics with ribbon, sing-a-long, tea time, outdoor walks or ball games and prepared some supplies such as rice filled balloons covered with fabric with the residents. I could usually plan my day like it worked best for me and of course, still helped out when I was asked to. Working with the residents was lots of fun, especially after I got to know them and had built up a relationship.
I made lots of new and unexpected experiences which you can only do, working for a certain number of weeks, so I´m really glad that I did have the chance to come to Vancouver and to work at for a Senior Care Centre! So thank you INTERNeX for finding that placement for me and for your support! I had one of the best times in my life and my time here in Vancouver encouraged me to go on like this and explore the world!
